The Bible claims to be the Word of God. Well over a thousand times it says things like, “saith the Lord”, “said God”, “and God said”, and other similar words. Did God really give us the Bible? The Bible claims to be given to us through men who were moved by the Holy Ghost. In II Peter chapter 1, Peter recounts a time when he and two other disciples were with Jesus when Jesus miraculously took on a glowing appearance and a voice was heard from heaven which said, “This is my beloved Son”. Peter then goes on to say in verses 19-21 that a “more sure word of prophecy” rather than this miraculous sign, is the “prophecy of the scripture” which is the Bible. Here in the Bible it tells us how the “prophecy of the scripture came”. It came when “Holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place… knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (II Peter 1: 19-21)
