Through faith in Christ’s power to save us from our sin, we are born again! We have a new relationship with God. II Corinthians 5:17-18 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ.” We are reconciled to God. This means our relationship is restored. To have our relationship with God restored means we have admitted our wrong against Him and asked for forgiveness. God made the way for us to have our relationship with Him restored through the sacrifice—the shed blood of His Son Jesus. God can forgive us because He made the way to make us to be righteous. He took the punishment for us. This new relationship comes about by trusting in Jesus alone to save us from our sins. Our standing with God changes. He takes our sins away and puts Christ’s righteousness on our account. “We pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (II Corinthians 5:20-21) This is just the beginning of a new life.
