You’re right – there are a lot of different religions out there. But the answer to this question is not as difficult as it seems, when you understand that there is only one thing that separates all false religions, including false forms of Christianity, from true Christianity. Every false religion works from the same false basis. That is, they all teach that their followers must “do” something to be accepted of God. Each one has a different set of things they teach you must do, but they all have the same common basis that you must “do” something. In contrast, true Christianity teaches us that there is nothing we can do to save ourselves and bring us into a relationship with God. We only need to accept what has already been paid for–the free gift of salvation, which is free because Jesus paid the price. What needs to be done, already has been “done”. It is finished. Jesus Christ has already done for us what was needed to bring us into a relationship with God, our Father in heaven. Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, lived a perfect life, with no sin. Because of His innocence, He was not required to die; but because of His love, He chose to die to pay the penalty for your sin. Through His death the holy justice of God the Father was satisfied. The innocent One, Jesus, payed the death penalty for the guilty ones, you and me. The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. (Romans 6:23). There is nothing you, yourself, can do to gain acceptance of God. Christ already paid the price of His innocent blood on your behalf. You simply believe that you have sinned against a holy God, that His sacrifice was sufficient to pay the price for your sin, and receive His gift of eternal life.
