Most of us of any age knows someone who has died. Their spirit and soul have been separated from their body. Their body lies lifeless, with no breath. The Bible in James 2:26 defines death as “the body without the spirit.” The Bible tells us that believers will live again. “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” (John 11:25-26)
The Bible talks about a second death. This refers to a person who is separated from God because of sin. Ephesians 2:1 and 5 says we are dead in sins. But God can quicken or make us alive from our dead condition through Christ. Ephesians 5:4 “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved:)” This life is where we make the choice to remain spiritually dead (separated from God) or to be born again spiritually. Once we have physically died, we no longer have a choice. Our destiny is determined. Revelation 21:8 says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone which is the second death.”
