We can only know what is in the world through our senses—sight, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling. Our senses are incredible in and of themselves but they are also limited. We can only see and hear so far. Then things become dim and not distinguishable. We humans are limited in our views. So it is with our intellect. Even the most intelligent human on earth has severe limitations and can know only a very small amount of things in this vast universe. So how can we assume that we with our limited senses and intellect can know God who made the universe and is all-knowing and all-powerful? We can’t. But often we think more highly of ourselves than we should. This causes us not to see the big picture and not to look outside of ourselves for answers. We need to seek to know this God. God tells us in Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Although we cannot possibly know everything about God, we can seek in His Word and find what He has given us and wants us to know.
